2026 Season:

Male K-81 (“Chase”) and female K-80 (“Cholyn”) remain the resident pair in the territory. Chase was hatched by captive eagles at the San Francisco Zoo and fostered into the West End nest on Catalina in 1998. Cholyn was hatched by artificial incubation at the SF Zoo and fostered into the Pinnacle Rock nest in 1998.

2/9: Chase and Cholyn have been frequently seen at the nest adding material and bonding, but no breeding attempt has yet been observed.

2025 Season:

Adult Male K-81 (aka Chase) was produced by captive eagles at the San Francisco Zoo and fostered to the West End nest on Catalina in 1998.

Adult Female K-82 (aka Cholyn) hatched in incubator at SF Zoo from egg removed from the West End nest on Catalina in 1998. Fostered to Pinnacle Rock nest on Catalina.

3/9: Laid first egg. Expected hatch around 4/15.

3/13: Laid second egg around 21:16. Expected hatch 4/18.

3/16: One egg broke.

3/23: Remaining egg broke in the morning.

2024 Season:

Adult Male K-81 (aka Chase) was produced by captive eagles at the San Francisco Zoo and fostered to the West End nest on Catalina in 1998.

Adult Female K-82 (aka Cholyn) hatched in incubator at SF Zoo from egg removed from the West End nest on Catalina in 1998. Fostered to Pinnacle Rock nest on Catalina.

2/22: Laid egg around 2220. Expected hatch around 3/30.

5/6: Ravens broke and removed egg when it was left alone.

2023 Season:

Adult Male K-81 (aka Chase) was produced by captive eagles at the San Francisco Zoo and fostered to the West End nest on Catalina in 1998.

Adult Female K-82 (aka Cholyn) hatched in incubator at SF Zoo from egg removed from the West End nest on Catalina in 1998. Fostered to Pinnacle Rock nest on Catalina.

2/28: Laid first egg around 20:19. Estimated hatch date is 4/6

3/4: Laid second egg around 18:14. Estimated hatch date is 4/8.

3/21: One egg broke in morning.

4/7: Chick hatched around 14:15.

2022 Season:

 Adult Male K-81 (aka Chase) was produced by captive eagles at the San Francisco Zoo and fostered to the West End nest on Catalina in 1998.

 Adult Female K-82 (aka Cholyn) hatched in incubator at SF Zoo from egg removed from West End nest on Catalina in 1998. Fostered to Pinnacle Rock nest on Catalina.

 2/23: First egg laid in evening. Expected hatch 4/2-4/3.

 3/1: Second egg laid in evening. Expected hatch 4/6.

 3/5: One egg broke overnight.

 4/6: Chick hatched in morning.

 4/26: Rescued chick that fell out of nest on 4/25.

 5/21: Banded Female 11/D (aka Lancer).

 6/25: Lancer flew.

 2021 Season:

 Adult Male K-81 (aka Chase) was produced by captive eagles at the San Francisco Zoo and fostered to the West End nest on Catalina in 1998.

 Adult Female K-82 (aka Cholyn) hatched in incubator at SF Zoo from egg removed from West End nest on Catalina in 1998. Fostered to Pinnacle Rock nest on Catalina.

 2/28: First egg laid in evening. Estimated hatch date 4/6.

 3/4: Second egg laid late 3/3 to early 3/4: Estimated hatch date 4/7.

 3/18: One egg broke.

 4/7: Chick hatched by first light.

 5/21: Banded chick, named Toyon

 6/22: Toyon took first flight away from nest

 2020 Season:

 Adult Male K-81 (aka Chase) was produced by captive eagles at the San Francisco Zoo and fostered to the West End nest on Catalina in 1998.

 Adult Female K-82 (aka Cholyn) hatched in incubator at SF Zoo from egg removed from West End nest on Catalina in 1998. Fostered to Pinnacle Rock nest on Catalina.

 Eggs laid 2/27, 3/1. One egg broke 3/20. Chick hatched 4/5.

 Champion flew 6/26

 Female K-43, aka Shyla, flew on 6/14. Seen at Klamath Falls, OR on 4/11/2020.

 Eggs laid 2/15 and 2/18. One egg broke on 2/24.

 Chick hatched on 3/25

 Chick banded on 5/18

 Female K-38, aka Echo, flew on 6/21. Seen on San Clemente Island on 2/17/18.

 2012 Season:

 Eggs laid 2/19 and 2/22

 Chick appeared to hatch on 3/26, but was likely killed accidentally by K-81. Second chick hatched on 3/29.

 Chick taken by an Island fox on 4/20 when neither adult returned to the nest at night.

 2011 Season:

 Eggs laid 2/17 and 2/21. One egg disappeared around 20 March.

 Chick hatched 3/26 or 3/27

 Chick banded on 5/22

 Female K-18, aka Solitaire, flew on 6/23. Seen in the Empire territory, Catalina Is. 2/13/21.

 2010 Season:

 Chicks banded on 5/24

 Female K-04 flew on 6/23. Found starving near Duvall, WA on 2/13/11. Went to Sarvey Wildlife Center for rehab.

 Male K-06 flew 6/23. Found dead under powerline in Oregon on 3/7/11.

 2009 Season:

 Female K-91 (aka Thunder) flew on 6/16. Breeding at West End nest on Catalina Island.

 Female K-87 (aka Lightning) flew between 6/18 and 6/23. Seen on San Clemente Island on 1/13/13.

 2008 Season:

 Eggs laid 2/22 and 2/26. Removed for artificial incubation on 2/28. Both fertile.

 Chick hatched 4/2 in incubation facility

 Chick fostered back to nest on 4/8

 Chick banded on 5/27

 Female K-83, flew ~6/21. Seen at Big Bear Lake on 9/7/16.

 2007 Season:

 Eggs laid 2/27 and 3/2. Removed for artificial incubation on 3/6. Both fertile.

 Chicks hatched in incubation facility on 4/6 and 4/8

 Chicks fostered to nest on 4/12

 Chicks banded on 5/30

 Male K-78, flew ~6/28. Seen on Catalina Island on 5/3/10.

 Female K-63 flew on 6/17. Seen at Folsom Lake near Sacramento, CA on 6/26/10.

 2005 Season:

 Egg laid on 2/23. Removed for artificial incubation on 2/25. Fertile.

 Chick hatched in incubation facility on 4/4.

 Chick fostered to nest on 4/10.

 Chick banded on 5/28

 Male K-55, flew on 6/28. Last reported in San Luis Obispo County, CA on 10/9/05.

 2004 Season:

 Adult Male K-81

 Adult Female K-82

 Egg laid on 2/22. Removed for artificial incubation on 2/24. Fertile.

 Chick hatched at Avian Conservation Center (ACC), San Francisco Zoo.

 Chick fostered to nest on 4/15.

 Chick banded on 5/30.

 Female K-46 flew ~6/28. Reported dead in Millville, CA under powerline on 12/6/04.

 2003 Season:

 Adult Male K-81

 Adult Female K-82

 Two eggs laid ~3/3. Removed for artificial incubation on 3/6. Both were fertile.

 Neither egg hatched at ACC.

 ACC-produced chick fostered to nest on 4/8.

 Chick banded on 6/1

 Male K-36, flew ~6/21. Last reported at Castaic Lagoon during Christmas bird count on 1/1/10.
