2026 Season:
Male A-14 (“Andor”) and female A-49 (“Cruz”) remain the resident pair in the territory. Andor hatched at the Baby’s Harbor nest on Santa Cruz Island in 2017. Cruz hatched at the Pelican Harbor nest on Santa Cruz in 2006. Cruz made history as the first known chick to naturally hatch on the islands since the 1950s.
2/9: The pair has been working on the nest since January, but has not yet made a breeding attempt.
2025 Season:
Adult Male A-14 (Andor) hatched at the Baby’s Harbor nest in 2017.
Adult Female A-49 (Cruz) hatched at the Pelican Harbor nest in 2006 and was the first known chick to naturally hatch on the islands since 1950.

2/13: First egg laid around 20:18: Expected hatch date 3/22
2/17: Second egg laid around 16:04. Expected hatch date 3/24
2/20: Third egg laid around 19:22. Expected hatch date 3/27
3/10: One egg broke in the afternoon
3/23: First chick seen around 06:10. Likely hatched sometime overnight.
3/25: Second chick hatched overnight.
6/12: One of the fledglings flies to ground for first time.
6/14: Second fledgling flies to another tree for first time.
2024 Season:
Adult Male A-14 (Andor) hatched at the Baby’s Harbor nest in 2017.
Adult Female A-49 (Cruz) hatched at the Pelican Harbor nest in 2006 and was the first known chick to naturally hatch on the islands since 1950.
2/23: Laid first egg around 1600. Expected hatch date 3/31.
2/26: Laid second egg around 1656. Expected hatch date 4/1
2/29: Laid third egg around 1951 (expected hatch date 4/4), but one egg broke overnight.
4/2: First chick hatched by 0824. Could be from Egg 1 (slightly over 38 1/2 days) or Egg 2 (slightly over 35 1/2 days).
4/4: Second chick hatched by 0645.
6/14: One fledgling fell out of the nest, but was seen flying past the nest later in the day.
6/24: Second fledgling took its first flight.
2023 Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-14 (Andor) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
2/16: We located a new nest in a nearby canyon.
4/13: Two chicks present, around 3 weeks old.
5/17: Banded Female 41/D (Winni) and Female 42/D (Cruzor)
2022 Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-14 (Andor) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
3/2: First egg laid in evening.
3/5: Second egg laid in afternoon.
4/8: First chick hatched in afternoon.
4/10: Second chick hatched in morning.
5/28: Banded Male 57/D (named Victor) and Female 53/D (named Lilibet).
6/29: Victor took his first flight.
6/30: Lilibet took her first flight.
7/11: Victor rescued from creek bed by nest and taken to the Ojai Raptor Center. Diagnosed with zinc toxicosis.
2021 Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz). Bred at nest without a live camera.
Unknown number of eggs laid.
4/3: First chick hatched.
4/4: Second chick hatched.
5/10: Banded Male 19/D (named Gregor) and Male 10/D (named Saber).
5/29: One chick disappeared from the nest. Could have been on ground.
6/26: Remaining chick took first flight.
2020 Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz). Bred at nest without a live camera.
2/29: Incubating at a new nest. Outcome unknown due to Covid-19 closures/end of surveys.
2019 Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
Eggs laid ~2/1, 2/3, 2/6 (confirmed 2/8).
Chicks hatched 3/9, 3/11, and 3/14.
4/29: Banded Female 34/A (named Trey), Male 45/A (named Moksha), and Male 55/A (named RobertAlan).
5/24: RobertAlan took his first flight. No reported sightings after leaving the natal territory.
5/27: Moksha took his first flight. No reported sightings after leaving the natal territory.
6/6: Trey took her first flight. Seen at Fraser Point nest via the nest cam on 8/16/22.
2018 Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
Eggs laid 2/9, 2/12, and 2/15
Chicks hatched 3/18, 3/20, and 3/22.
5/1: Banded Female 52/A (named Atsa), Male 44/A (named Soar), and Female 35/A (named Nellie).
6/8: Soar took first flight. No reported sightings after leaving the natal territory.
6/11: Nellie took first flight. Seen at Fraser Point nest via the nest cam on 5/29/20.
6/13: Atsa took first flight. No reported sightings after leaving the natal territory.
2017 Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
3/15: Located a new nest with at least 2 chicks.
5/8: Banded Male A-02 (named Henry), Male A-03 (named Theos), and Male A-04 (named Barrett).
Henry flew by 6/21. He was the breeding male at the East Point bald eagle nest on Santa Rosa Island in 2022.
Theos flew by 6/21. Seen at Scorpion Harbor on Santa Cruz Island throughout 2022.
Barrett flew by 6/21. Last reported at Fraser Point nest on 7/5/19.
2016 Breeding Season:
Did not nest because of the presence of a golden eagle.
2015 Breeding Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
2/18: Found incubating eggs.
4/1: Confirmed at least one chick present.
4/29: Confirmed 2 chicks present.
5/11: Banded Female A-54 (named Chanita) and 2nd female with just a federal leg band (named Takoda).
6/24: Chanita had flown from nest already. Last reported in Ojai, CA on 3/30/21.
7/8: Takoda had flown from nest already. Found dead near Ventura, CA 8/16/15.
2014 Breeding Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
2/12: Found incubating.
3/28: Confirmed at least one chick present.
4/10: Confirmed two chicks present.
5/5: Banded Male A-97 (named Maxiwo) and Female A-98 (named Glory).
6/19: Maxiwo had already taken first flight. No reported sightings after leaving the natal territory.
6/19: Glory had already taken first flight. Seen at 2019 Fraser Point nest on 2/1/21.
2013 Breeding Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
3/10: Found already incubating.
4/14: One chick present.
6/6: Banded Female A-89 (named Sapphire).
7/13: Sapphire had already taken first flight. Last reported in the new East Point territory on Santa Rosa Island on 3/15/18.
2012 Breeding Season:
Breeding birds were Male A-64 (Spirit) and Female A-49 (Cruz).
Eggs laid ~2/29.
4/4: At least one chick observed.
4/9: Nest had failed.
